Tweed Style Amps

I offer a wide range of tweed amp reproductions. These are typically built on commission with a lead time of four to eight weeks, but I do sometimes have completed amps available for sale. Lead times on new builds are dictated by my workload and the lead times of my cabinet and speaker suppliers.

The models I can offer are limited by the availability of chassis. Not every vintage tweed chassis is manufactured today, but fortunately most of the great amps from the late 50’s are represented.

Building a great tweed amp is really just a matter of combining top quality components and great workmanship with a generous helping of experience. I consider my reproductions to be among the very best available. But that’s simply because I pay attention to the details, maintain the very highest standards of quality, and draw on my years of experience working with the old amps. My goal with every component choice and build decision is to match the tone of the best vintage examples.

These amps are truly clones. They’re built to look, sound, and feel like the old amps. As such, I avoid mods and alterations and strive to build them just like they did it back in the 50’s. I do, of course, make some minor changes to the power supply and grounding scheme to create amps that are safer and quieter than vintage examples, and operate correctly at modern wall voltages.

I keep my prices very low. Never by cutting corners on components and construction, but by keeping all other costs down. But these are hand made, top quality amps, and they are not cheap. The final cost of your build will be determined by your component choices. Follow the links below for more details.

A note on shipping costs:

Safely shipping a combo amp is a challenge. I’ve learned that the best approach it is to break the shipment down into two containers: one for the cabinet, and one for the chassis. This way both assemblies can be packed securely. There’s no stress put on the chassis mounting screws during shipment and each box can be made UPS-proof.

Doing it like this assures that the amp is able to withstand the vibration, rough handling, and outright abuse it can experience during shipment. But this approach effectively doubles the cost of shipping. I try to be transparent about this extra cost and hope that my customers value the safe arrival of their amp as much as I do.
