5F2 Princeton
TOPOLOGY
High and low sensitivity inputs. One 12AX7 gain stage followed by a simple, one-knob tone stack. A second 12AX7 gain stage drives a single-ended power section running a cathode biased 6V6 in true “Class A” operation. 5Y3 rectifier. Single 10″ speaker in a 18″x16″x9″ cabinet.
DESCRIPTION
The 5F2A Princeton is an upscale version of the tweed Champ. It adds a one-knob tone control for some basic EQ capability, and uses slightly larger transformers, a bigger cabinet, and a 10″ speaker for a fuller sound and a little more volume. Originally a part of Fender’s line of “student amps,” the Princeton was a bump up in price and features for those who wanted a little more than the bare bones Champ.
Nowadays, the tweed Princeton is a favorite of players who love the pure tone of a Champ, but want a bit more versatility and an amp that sounds bigger and fuller in the room. For many, this is the perfect home and practice amp.
