This is my take on the blackface Deluxe Reverb. It has two channels, Vintage and Custom, with reverb on both channels. The Vintage channel is the classic blackface voicing with Volume, Treble, and Bass controls. The Custom channel adds a Mid Boost, plus a toggle switch for the bright cap and another to cut bass. The Custom channel lets you take the amp a little beyond the vintage sound, but never strays too far from classic blackface tone.
Features
The Vintage channel provides the classic blackface sound with Volume, Treble, and Bass controls. It’s voiced just like the Vibrato channel on the vintage amps with a 47pf bright cap across the Volume control.
The Custom channel adds a powerful Mid Boost, plus toggle switches for the bright cap (none – 47pf – 100pf) and another to cut bass. The Custom channel lets you shape the sound in ways the vintage amps can’t do. Have you ever wanted to add a bit more mids to your blackface sound? Maybe you installed a Celestion type speaker? The Mid-Boost lets you do that with the twist of a knob. Does your Deluxe get a bit woofy when you crank it? The Deep switch lets you cut bass frequencies for a more focused sound. Have you ever wanted to “clip the bright cap?” You can do that with the flip of a switch.
The tremolo has been removed in order to build an enhanced version of the reverb circuit. An added gain stage, plus Depth and Mix controls provides a greater range of reverb sounds. Everything from “just barely there,” to a very rich and full reverb, without getting muddy. Reverb is available on both channels.
There’s also a negative feedback bypass switch on the back panel. This is useful when playing at low volumes to bring back a bit of sparkle, or at high volume to push the overdrive a little further.
